Saint Joseph College is the biggest school in Ambohidratrimo. It consists of a pre-school, a primary and a junior secondary school.
It is run by nuns Franciscan Missionaries of Mary. The school is nealry 110 years old and it holds a very good name in our town.
There are more than 1000 pupils in the school every year. Nearly 200 of them belong to ANKIZY GASY’s sponsorship programme.
Yearly cost of 180 EUR covers one child’s registration fee, all tuition fees, school supplies and provide 2 meals a day.
The school’s canteen serves daily breakfasts and lunches for more than 250 children. Some of them come from different schools to eat at Saint Joseph’s canteen. Parents come and cook in the school’s canteen as their contribution for their children being part of ANKIZY GASY’s programme.
The cost of a private education however it may seem not expensive for us, is very often completely out of reach for a common Malagasy family.
In many famlies parents have to choose between their children who can go to school and continue it over the years and who has to stay at home to help in house chores and look after their younger sibilings.
Very few children who start school would eventually reach to a baccalaureate exams.
Without a financial support familes are forced to withdraw their kids from a school after few years.
We are always very proud to witness a success among our beneficiaries when they graduate from Saint Joseph College and apply to different senior secondary schools.
On a daily basis we love to see all children happy and smiling, having fun and and eating at school.
